As the nationwide fight to curb the opioid epidemic rages on, a new initiative at Salisbury University is climbing into the ring. SU has received a $53,000 federal grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service to launch HOPECorps. The new AmeriCorps initiative, which stands for Heroin Opioid Prevention and Education, will recruit 11 members who will work in various Eastern Shore communities to support efforts to tackle the opioid crisis. SU social work professor Aaron Willis, who is heading the program, said his primary mission for HOPECorps is to make a dent in the number of deaths as a result of opioid addiction.
