Name: ACT - Sip of Science Series: 'Composting Gold' - Tour the Shore's Largest Composter
Date: April 18, 2026
Time: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM EDT
Event Description:
Composting Gold - Tour the Shore's Largest Composter!

Remember those field trip days? Get ready to relive the excitement with this hands-on adventure during Earth Week.

Join Josh Chamberlain, Founder and President of Go Green OC, Ocean City’s award-winning nonprofit dedicated to sustainability, environmental education, and community-driven solutions. Under his leadership, Go Green OC has diverted nearly 1.3 million pounds of food waste from landfills through the Eastern Shore’s largest composting operation — partnering with local businesses, festivals, and organizations to move our region toward a zero-waste future.

You're invited to a behind-the-scenes peek at his “homeland,” where the compost gold mine thrives. During this experience, you’ll see firsthand how food scraps transform from rags to riches, and ultimately gold in the compost world, that support healthier soils and thriving gardens. You will experience step-by-step through the process of turning food waste into nutrient-rich soil and you may never look at your kitchen scraps the same way again.

As a thank-you for attending, everyone will receive a bucket of compost to take home for their gardens. And those gardens will be extra happy when you pair that compost with native plants from ACT’s upcoming Native Plant Sale.

Come explore the Gold Mine, learn the science, and gather a little wealth of your own.
